Litchfield County Roundup: Wamogo baseball one-hitter leads a win over O’Brien Tech

LITCHFIELD >> Jeff Aeschlimann (7 strikeouts) and Matt Rollins (4 strikeouts) combined for a one-hitter in a 5-0 win over O’Brien Tech at Wamogo Thursday morning.

Aeschlimann carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning when Condor Todd Henry broke it up with a line single to left. Rollins entered the game with two outs, bases loaded. He struck out the final Condor in the sixth, then mowed down all three O’Brien Tech batters in the seventh.

The Warriors (5-2) put up single runs in each of the first three innings and two more in the bottom of the sixth behind Rollins and Pete Schneider’s two hits and an RBI apiece, an RBI double by Nick Michanczyk and a double by Sean Coffey.
O’Brien Tech is 2-5.

Oxford 17, Torrington 2 >> The Red Raiders were on the wrong side of a blowout for the first time this season, at Oxford.

Matt Gramesty (2-for-4, home run, 2 RBI, 3 runs), Adam Baktis (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs), Tom Davis (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Matt Stordy (3-for-4, 3 RBI, run) led the Wolverines’ 19-hit pounding.

Nate Manchester was 2-for-4 for the Raiders. Marcus Bloom was 2-for-3.

Wilcox Tech 10, Wolcott Tech 0 >> Jake Conte and Jack Rich led Wilcox Tech with a double and 2 runs scored apiece. Angelo Calandra scattered 6 hits, striking out 5 Wildcats.

Softball

Shepaug 17, Housatonic 0 >> Shepaug’s Olivia Moore pitched a five-inning two-hitter while her offense battered the Mountaineers at Shepaug.

The leaders were Giana Johnson (3 hits, triple, 5 RBI, 2 runs); Alina Anderson (2 hits, 3 RBI, 2 runs); Maribeth Seeger (3 hits, RBI, 3 runs); Paige Johnson (3 hits, RBI, 2 runs); and Hannah Lasky (2 RBI, run).

Terryville 11, Lewis Mills 9 >> The Kangaroos put together back-to-back big innings at home, destroying a 5-0 Spartan lead through the first four-and-a-half innings at Terryville with five runs in the fourth and six in the sixth.

Wolcott Tech 27, Abbott Tech 10 (5) >> The Wildcats (5-3) were on the right side of a mercy-rule game in a blowout at Abbott Tech (3-5).

Maura Nelson (2 doubles, 3 RBI, 5 runs), Morgan Rubino (double, 2 RBI, 4 runs) and Abby Armstrong (double, 3 RBI, 2 runs) led the way.

Golf

Litchfield 176, Northwestern 192, Housatonic 266 >> Litchfield’s Nathan Leigh (41) led the way for Chris Parsons (45), Donnie Protzmann (44) and Chandler Boucher (46) at the Sharon Country Club.

Connor Campbell (44) and Tucker Kreh (45) were low for Northwestern. Zach Ongley had a 52 for Housatonic.

The Cowboys are 5-0 at the top of the Berkshire League; Northwestern is 2-2; Housatonic is 1-2.
Boys Tennis

Lewis Mills 5, Gilbert 0 >> Jacob Honig, Bo Omuraliev and Jorge Mataix won at singles. Isaac Baek/Chris Soliani and Jon Groleau/Eli Jones won at doubles. The Spartans improved to 4-3.

Wednesday

Softball

Northwestern 7, Shepaug 2 >> The Spartans led 2-1 after three innings at Shepaug, led by Maribeth Seeger (3 hits, 2 runs); Giana Johnson (3 hits, double, 2 RBI) and Hannah Lasky (2 hits).

Northwestern buried the Shepaug lead with two more runs in the fifth, another in the sixth and a final three in the seventh.

Michaela Cisowski had 2 hits, an RBI and 2 runs; Sydney Sanden, 2 hits, a triple, 3 RBI and a run; Kate Matava, 2 hits and an RBI.

Boys Tennis

Shepaug 3, Gilbert 2 >> Josh Jordan, Sam Ponolilo and Gavin Block/Lars Vickstrom came through for Shepaug’s first win of the season (1-4) at Gilbert.

Devon Shivers and Jim Wang/Steven Xu won for the Yellowjackets (1-4).

Boys Lacrosse

Bristol Eastern 12, Wamogo 5 >> Max Loomis had 3 goals, Matt Perry and Harrison Porter, 1 apiece, in the loss. Noah Sessions made 19 saves for the Warriors (1-3).

Girls Tennis

Lewis Mills 7, Gilbert 0 >> Kristen Angiletta, Jenns Gabrielson, Erica Robinson and Olivia Gillette swept the singles at Mills.

Emily Burzynski/Kara Schatz, Gracie Colossale/Carley Miceli and Lauren McCard/Abby Shafer took the doubles.

The Spartans are 4-2; Gilbert is 1-7.
