Wally Hurd has been hired to take over the softball program which is restarting this spring after forgoing the 2018 season due to lack of participation.

“We wanted to act quickly but diligently, virtually from the minute I arrived here, to find the right coaches who believed in our program,” Trinity interim athletic director Frank Fedak said in a press release. “The committee of sports, parents and teachers was impressed by the quality of these applicants.

Broschardt was the wide receiver coach at Pace University prior to taking the helm at Trinity.

Broschardt played quarterback and wide receiver at Sacred Heart University and previously held coaching positions at Western Connecticut State College, SUNY Maritime, Union College and with the USA National Football team.

“I’ve been around Trinity for a number of years,” Broschardt said via a press release. “I’ve recruited Trinity kids for colleges. They bring great academic profiles. They’ve been coached hard by Donnie (Panapada) and others. They have a no quit attitude playing against these bigger schools. I’m excited to be here and be family at Trinity.”

“I’ll be bringing a unique offensive system to Trinity football that will allow younger players to begin their playing careers earlier in high school,” Broschardt said. “This fits in well with the size and nature of the teams we field, against much-larger schools, with thousands of students.”

Tsingerliotis, a 2009 graduate and was a four-year baseball player while at Trinity.

A two-sport athlete in college (baseball and soccer), Tsingerliotis played professionally in Greece for and played for the Greek national baseball team, playing in both the 2012 and 2018 European Championship.

“Representing a country comes with it a weight of responsibility,” Tsingerliotis said in a press release. “I learned this throughout Europe with the Greek national team. The same applies to high school baseball. You play the game well and always remember you represent your school- on and off the field. It helps build character.”

Tsingerliotis is a teacher at Our Lady of Fatima School in Wilton and the head girls’ soccer coach at McMahon High School.

Hurd is a 20-year Norwalk Babe Ruth softball coach and was an assistant coach at Trinity under Hall of Fame Coach Tom Kriz since 2012.

He takes over of a program that did not play in 2018.

“We’re going to build the program back up by developing softball players that are excited to be here,” Hurd said in a press release. “All high school sports have a two-fold purpose. They learn the game and learn about life. It fosters leadership skills, cooperation, teamwork.”

Additionally, in the release Trinity Vice Principal Christine Wagner said the school is dedicated to the success of its athletic programs.

“Throughout the FCIAC and indeed the state of Connecticut, everyone knows Trinity has an outstanding sports history and would never abandon that,” Wagner said. “Our commitment to both the boys’ and girls’ sports programs at Trinity — in eighteen varsity sports — is unwavering. We’re excited about 2019.”
