Monday morning, Staples High School’s rising junior Ben Casparius verbally committed to the University of North Carolina to play baseball, first reported by SportsFairfield.
This past spring Casparius helped lead the Wreckers to the FCIAC title game and the Class LL state championship.
The shortstop/pitcher collected 32 RBIs, eight home runs and went 7-0 on the mound.
He earned All-State and ALL-FCIAC honors. Staples finished as the No. 5 team in the final Register/GameTimeCT poll.
