After winning its fourth straight Class LL state title, Amity is the unanimous No. 1 team in the final poll of 2016.

The Spartans defeated new No. 3 Fairfield Warde 4-3 on a walk-off walk to win the championship. Amity went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the state. It started the preseason No. 1 and never relinquished it despite losing once to Cheshire.

Notre Dame-West Haven won the Class L title over No. 4 East Lyme to join the final poll at No. 2.

Class M champion Wolcott comes in at No. 5 and Class S champion St. Paul Catholic is No. 9.

Bottom line: The Spartans dynasty has won 20-consecutive state playoff games and four straight Class LL titles.

Final result: Def. East Lyme 5-2 (8) to win the Class L state championship.
Bottom line: The Green Knights have won two of the last three Class L titles.

Final result: Lost to Amity 4-3 in Class LL final.
Bottom line: The Mustangs were oh-so-close to knocking off Amity, but earn respect in their final, No. 3 ranking.

Final result: Lost to Notre Dame-West Haven 5-2 (8) in Class L final.
Bottom line: The Vikings went from 0-4 to the state title game, but left Palmer Field with the runner-up trophy for the second consecutive year.

Final result: Def. Northwestern 3-2 to win the Class M state championship.
Bottom line: Ray Bartoli’s walk-off home run to win the championship will be remembered in Wolcott for generations.

Final result: Lost to East Lyme 15-2 in Class L semifinals.
Bottom line: The Lancers ran into a very hot East Lyme team at the wrong time.

Bottom line: The FCIAC Champions’ banner season ended earlier than expected to the team they beat for the league title.

Bottom line: The Lancers’ mighty offense was shut down by the arm of Ike Negretti and Wolcott.

Bottom line: The Falcons won their first state title since 1972.

Bottom line: Hamden won a school-record 19 games, but Green Dragons were slain when it mattered most.
