Boys Track and Field
Xavier 77, Fairfield Prep 66 >> Kent Pope won the 110 hurdles (17.1), the long jump (18-2), and the 300 hurdles (46.4) to pace the Falcons on Wednesday.
Xavier (1-0) also got first-place individual performances from Matt Wyzykowski (shot put, 43-2.5), Austin Cote (pole vault, 9-6), Jack Schoonmaker (high jump, 4-8), David Moeller (800, 207.8), and Sarvesh Pradhan (triple jump, 31-1).
The Falcons 4×800 relay team of Tom Blanchard, Owen Curran, Dan Hettrick, and Moeller placed first in 8:44, and the 4×400 relay team of Josh Ward, Peter Leff, Trinity Collins and Moeller also finished first in 3:49.
Drew Thompson won the 1600 (4:44) and the 3200 (10:02) to lead the Jesuits (0-1).
Baseball
Haddam-Killingworth 5, Old Saybrook 1 >> At Higganum, Trevor Mann had a key two-run single in the third inning and Luke Bauer earned the pitching win with six solid innings to lift H-K in their season opener on Wednesday.
Anthony Marino had two hits for the Cougars (1-0).
Ryan Bergeron had an RBI single for the Rams (0-1).
Softball
North Branford 20, Valley Regional 3 >> At Totoket Fiekld, Sabrina Lemere went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and pitcher Lindsey Golia struck out 10 to lead the host T-birds (1-0).
Kaleigh Caulfield had a hit and two RBIs for the Warriors (0-1).
Girls Lacrosse
Guilford 12, Haddam-Killingworth 10 >> Nicolette Spotlow, Alex Fitzgerald, and Emma Jewett netted three goals apiece to lead the host Indians (1-0) to a non-league win on Wednesday.
Julie Hausherr had three goals and three assists, Brinley Anderson added three goals and two assists, and Katie Hausherr also had three goals for the Cougars (0-1).
Boys Tennis
Branford 4, Xavier 3 >> At Watrous Park, Cromwell, Rich Ciamarra won at No. 1 singles and Hieu Ton won his first career match at No. 3 singles to lead the Falcons (O-1).
