Windsor pitcher Matt Cleveland has left the team due to an undisclosed medical issue, the Hartford Courant reported Wednesday.
Windsor coach Joe Serfass told reporter Tom Yantz that his star pitcher has left the team due to a “physical, medical reason.” Windsor Athletic Director Steve Risser confirmed medical reasons were the reason for Cleveland’s departure. “We wish him well,” he told the Courant.
Cleveland was named the No. 1 prospect in New England entering the season by Baseball America. As of a March 10 post by Baseball America, Cleveland is the 84th-ranked draft prospect for the upcoming MLB Draft which is set to take place on June 9-11.
Cleveland’s most recent start came on May 17 vs. Southington, which was played in front of a handful of scouts. Cleveland allowed five runs in five innings while striking out nine and walking two and a hit batter in a 10-2 Windsor loss.
Windsor is currently 10-9 with its final regular season game to be played on Wednesday vs. East Hartford.
