Baseball

Xavier 4, Hand 3 >> At Madison, senior Scott Marks (4-3) tossed a complete game with five strikeouts to lift the Falcons into the Class LL state tournament on Monday.

Tim Dickson, Austin Fortier, Anthony Franco, and Josh Cyr each had RBI singles for Xavier (8-12).

Drew Harmon had a double for the Tigers (7-13).

North Branford 5, East Hampton 0 >> Chad Deming tossed a complete game and Giovanni Tirollo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the T-birds in the Shoreline Conference quarterfinals on Monday.

Deming scattered five hits and struck out six. Chris Raynor and Ryan Savio each had two hits for fifth-seed North Branford (13-8).

Ian Reilly had two hits for the host and fourth-seeded Bellringers (13-8).

Valley Regional 3. Old Lyme 0 >> At Deep River, senior Arik Sypher tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead the third-seeded Warriors in the SLC quarterfinals. Derek Hill, Brett Camilleri, and Sypher each had RBI doubles, while Matt Robida had two hits for Valley (15-6). Cooper St. Germain had two hits for the Wildcats (10-11).

Morgan 5, Portland 4 >> At Clinton, the No. 2 Huskies edged the No. 7 Highlanders in the SLC quarterfinals on Monday. Morgan hosts No. 3 Valley Regional in the semifinals.

Vinal Tech 8, MLC 3 >> At Middletown, senior pitcher Matt Vollano allowed just five hits to lead the Hawks (6-14) in their season finale. MLC fell to 1-16.

Softball

Haddam-Killingworth 7, Northwestern 6 (11) >> At Higganum, Cassie Harlow drove home pinch-runner Tori Rich with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th to lift the host Cougars to a thrilling non-league win on Monday.

H-K (12-7) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the score at 5. Each team scored a single run in the 9th inning.

In the 11th, H-K pinch-hitter Brooke La Touché singled and Olivia Whitehead drew a walk to set the stage for Harlow.
Winning pitcher Hannah Theriault went the distance with eight strikeouts. The Highlanders fell to 13-7.

Branford 3, Valley Regional 2 >> Marisa Minore went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Sophia Araneo scattered six hits to lead the Hornets (6-14) to a non-league win.

Hannah Clark went 2-for-3, and Kaleigh Caulfield and Morgan Bakoledis each had a hit and an RBI for the Warriors (6-13).

Boys Tennis

Bristol Eastern 4, Middletown 3 >> Peter Flynn earned a straight set win at No. 1 singles for the visiting Blue Dragons on Monday.

Harish Patel captured fourth singles, while Evan Augeri and Lawrence Wu took second doubles for Middletown (5-8).

Ridhudson Abdulsalam and Devon Plaride earned singles wins for the Lancers (9-6).

Girls Tennis

Middletown 5, Rockville 2 >> At Wesleyan, the Blue Dragons swept all three doubles matches behind Kim Chambers and Lisa Tipton, Jess Hart and Mariah Monroe, and Sarah Huston and Olivia Lapham en route to a Senior Day win on Monday.

Carlie Panasawich and Gaby Lanza captured 1-2 singles for Middletown (3-10). The Rams fell to 2-10.

Boys Golf

Portland 159, North Branford 199 >> At Indian Springs, co-medalists Nick Piersall and Jimmy Kelley each fired a 38 to lead the Highlanders on Monday.

Also for Portland, Jon Twichell shot a 41, while Timmy Leonard shot a 48.

Kyle Ricci shot a 46 for the T-birds.

Morgan 170, Haddam-Killingworth 185 >> At Black Birch Golf Club, medalist Kevin Daley fired a 38 and Jack Bugg shot a 42 to lead the Huskies.

Alex Segaline shot a 40 and Tom Fulner shot a 42 for the host Cougars (11-10, 5-5 SLC).

Coginchaug 178, Hale-Ray 228 >> At Fox Hopyard, the Blue Devils were led by medalist Tyler Woodward, who shot a 42.
