THOMASTON >> League-leading Thomaston made it through another close Berkshire League softball game in a come-from-behind win that’s become a late season trademark for the Golden Bears.
This time, they did it in a 5-4 win over fourth-place Northwestern Monday afternoon at Thomaston High School.
Thomaston jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Then the Highlanders had a four-run outburst in the top of the fifth behind Sarah Hale (2-for-3) and Marisa Swartley (2 RBI).
The Bears came through with their winning runs in the bottom of the seventh on a game-winning RBI single by Katie Everett (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
Morgan Sanson struck out 6 on the mound, then delivered an RBI double at bat. Nicole Schaefer was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Sam Leone was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Thomaston is 12-2, 12-1 BL; Northwestern is 9-3 BL.
Gilbert 23, Housatonic 13 >> In a slugfest in Winsted, the Mountaineers struck first with nine runs in the first inning behind Cameron Foley (3 hits, 3 RBI) and Madelynn Olownia (3 hits, 3 RBI).
The Yellowjackets came back, led by Shelby Gumpper (3 hits, 3 RBI), Alexis Johnson (2 hits, 4 RBI) and Liz Wexler (double, triple, 2 RBI, 3 runs).
Gilbert is 3-9; Housy is 0-12.
Wolcott Tech 22, Bassick 2 >> The Wildcats scored 12 runs in the first inning, then coasted through a mercy-rule four more innings at Wolcott Tech. Jenna Lemanquais had two hits, a double, 5 RBI and a run; Morgan Rubino, 3 hits, 2 RBI, 4 runs; Katelyn Benedict, 2 RBI, 2 runs; Mary Dinice, 2 RBI, run.
Wolcott Tech is 10-5; Bassick is 0-12.
Shepaug 8, Litchfield 1 >> The Spartans (7-6) put up four runs in the first inning, then cruised to the win at home. Olivia Moore (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs); Hannah Lasky (2 hits, RBI); Giana Johnson (doiuble, 2 RBI); Maribeth Seeger (2 hits) led the attack.
Pitcher Olivia Moore held the Cowgirls to three hits.
Wamogo 6, Lewis Mills 3 >> Cyrena Zemaitis struck out 13 Spartans on the mound, then hit a pair of doubles at bat to lead the Warriors at Lewis Mills High School. Caitlyn Maliszewski added a double, triple and 3 runs.
Girls Tennis
Sacred Heart 6, Torrington 1 >> Torrington’s Bayleigh Dimauro won at first singles.
The Hearts took the rest: Madison LaFerriere, Colleen Flanagan and Nellie Drewry in singles; Aimer Duprey/Ireland Gilmore; Brianna Montambault/Heather Brown; and Alexa Galino/Jessica Spillane in doubles.
Torrington is 4-6; Sacred Heart is 12-2.
Shepaug 7, Northwestern 0 >> Caroline Kelly, Haley Pesce, Emma Kassis and Kate Klein won the singles at Shepaug High School. Maddie Gorra/Jackie Doerwald; Abby Gorra/Nadia Racz; and Margaret Wolk/Alyssa Cicio won doubles.

Housatonic 4, Litchfield 1 >> Johnathan Miller and Pat Considien won first and third singles matches for undefeated Housatonic (10-0).
Jan Ritzenhoff took No. 2 singles for the Cowboys.
Mountaineers Max Vadakin/Mo Elserafy and Justin Gomez/Moustafa Sakr took care of the doubles matches.
Litchfield is 7-3.
Torrington 7, Sacred Heart 0 >> The Red Raiders improved to 10-1 with a home sweep by Scott Dixon, Alain Malcolm, Billy Weber, Kevin Dison, Ryan Nader and Will Elmendorf in singles; Kevin Dixon/Naseem Thompson; Luke Wassik/Richard Zheng; and Kyle White/Richi Patail in doubles.

Wamogo 4, Thomaston 1 >> Wamogo got singles wins from Kevin Fenn, Mike McCarthy and Ben Frisbie. Josh Gallo/Jake Grasso won first doubles for Thomaston (1-9). Brendon Masaku/Dan DiMaria won second doubles for Wamogo (3-7).

Torrington 186, Naugatuck 229 >> Tylar Young led the Red Raiders with a 44 at Torrington Country Club, followed by Carson Sparks (46), Adam LaMothe (47) and Aiden Matiello (49).
The Raiders are 3-1; Naugatuck is 3-6.
Litchfield 169, Gilbert 206, Terryville 219 >> Litchfield’s Donny Protzmann led all golfers with a 41 at Greenwoods Country Club. Cowboys Nathan Leigh and Chandler Boucher had 42s; Tom Simoncelli shot 44; Chris Parsons, 48.
Conor Bailey (42) and Andrew Christensen (49) led Gilbert.
Mike Hills (43) was low man for the Kangaroos.
Nonnewaug 178, Northwestern 196, Housatonic 227 >> Nonnewaug’s Anthony Eanniello had a 41 at Norfolk Cuntry Club. Jey Herman and Jason Procelli followed with 42 and 45.

Housatonic 2, Gilbert 1 >> Housatonic’s Jacob Sphur (7 strikeouts) and Gilbert’s Ryan Sholtis (12 strikeouts, 2 hits) battled for six innings at Housatonic High School. Mountaineer Finn Bamberry came through with the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the sixth. Scott Dignacco (2 strikeouts) closed out the Yellowjackets in the top of the seventh.
Lewis Mills 13, Wamogo 8 >> It was a hitters’ day at Wamogo. The Spartans led 5-4 after two innings, then outpaced the Warriors the rest of the way.
Mills’ Jared Czarnecki (3 hits, 4 RBI) started it with a three-run homer in the first inning. Andrew Maden (3 hits, 2 doubles) and Lucas Lanning (2 doubles) added to Spartan barrage.
Wamogo’s Jake Rosko (2 hits, double, 2 RBI); Matt Rollins (2 hits, double); Jordan Bergs (home run); and Nick Michanczyk (2 hits) came close to keeping up.
Mills is now 6-7; Wamogo is 8-5.
Wolcott Tech 9, Bassick 0 >> Clay Langer (6 strikeouts) gave up just three hits in six innings and had 2 hits, 3 runs at bat. Riley Shreders and Paul Cisowski added 2 hits apiece for the Wildcats (9-6).
Thomaston 13, Northwestern 6 >> The Golden Bears continued their 8-game run with a huge win at Northwestern, handing the Highlanders just their second league loss.
Justin Taylor struck out 7 for the Bears, going 4-for-5 with a double and 4 runs scored at bat. Jared Kahn was 3-for-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs; Jake George, 3 hits, 3 RBI, run; Matt Tehan, 2 hits, RBI, 2 runs.
Bryce Ramsey (3 hits, triple, double, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Jayson Reola (2-for-4, double, run) led the Highlanders.
Shepaug 12, Litchfield 0 >> Shepaug’s Ryan LaMay had 8 strikeouts in five innings at Litchfield High School, going 3-for-5 at bat, with 2 doubles. Austin Dutcher had a grand slam home run and a double in his two hits.
Ryan O’Bernier had three of Litchfield’s four hits, with a double.

Track
Northwestern Throwers Invitational >> Northwestern’s Alex Robatham (javelin); Morgan Daley (shot put); and Morgan Daley (discus) swept the girls’ events Saturday at Northwestern High School.
Gilbert’s Kyle Root broke in for a discus win in the boys events. Northwestern’s Will Tellier (javelin) and Liam Maltby (shot put) won the other two events.
Root was first in the exhibition hammer throw.
